About JPGDrop

Last updated: 21 October 2026

JPGDrop is a small family of free online image converters built around one simple idea: converting a file should never mean handing it to a stranger's server. Every JPGDrop tool runs entirely in your web browser, using your own device's processor. Your files are never uploaded, stored, or seen by us.

Why we exist

Modern phones and websites keep inventing better image formats — HEIC, WebP, AVIF — but the rest of the world still runs on JPG. When an iPhone photo will not open on a Windows PC, or an upload form rejects a file, people search for a converter. Most converters they find upload their personal photos to a remote server. We thought the private way should also be the easy way, so we built it.

How JPGDrop works

When you add a photo to a JPGDrop converter, your browser decodes and re-encodes it locally using open-source libraries. There is no server processing your files, no queue, and no copy of your photo anywhere outside your device. That is also why JPGDrop is free with no limits: your device does the work, so there is no server bill to recover through paywalls or credits.

Who runs JPGDrop

JPGDrop is an independent project created and maintained by Arslan Y. It is not affiliated with Apple Inc. Questions, corrections and suggestions are welcome — see the Contact page.

What is coming next

The HEIC to JPG converter is our first tool. HEIC to PNG, WebP to PNG, WebP to JPG, AVIF to JPG, HEIC to PDF and WebP to GIF converters are in development and will be added one at a time, each held to the same standard: works in the browser, free, and private.
